The 2015 Copa America kicked off last night as hosts Chile faced Ecuador in the opening game of the competition.
Chile were the dominating side as expected but were mundane in the first half as they had all the possession but could not score.
Right after the hour mark, the deadlock was broken as Juventus midfielder Arturo Vidal was brought down in the box. The versatile midfielder stepped up and scored from the spot to give Chile the lead.
Arsenal star Alexis Sanchez was the main architect for the hosts in attack but even he missed decent opportunities to find the net. Nevertheless, Alexis did grab an assist later on in the game as he provided the perfect ball for substitute Vargas who made no mistake in slotting the ball home to seal Chile win.
Mexico will play Bolivia tonight in the second Group A game. Here is the vine Vargas’ goal for Chile.
