The knockout stages of Copa America kicked off yesterday as hosts Chile faced defending champions Uruguay in the first quarter final.
Uruguay have been toothless upfront in the absence of suspended star Luis Suarez who is arguably country’s best player.
Barca star helped the club win treble last season but unfortunately was helpless for the national side as Chile eliminated the Uruguayans from the competition, beating them 1-0 on the night.
A late goal from Juventus star Isla proved to be the difference for Chile but hosts’ main threat was provided by Arsenal’s player of the season Alexis Sanchez.
The former Barcelona star was not clinical in front of goal as his shooting was wayward but his pace and trickery were a constant source of menace for Uruguay to deal with. Sanchez was deservedly awarded the man of the match prize.
Chile will now face the winner of Bolivia and Peru. Not to forget, Chile ripped Bolivia apart 5-0 in their group stage contest.
