Liverpool are once against linked with British players as far as the transfers is concerned as lack of Champions League will be problematic.
However, to secure James Milner from Manchester City on a free transfer may as well prove to be a brilliant piece of business.
According to BBC, Liverpool are close to securing the former Aston Villa star for a bosman.
Capable of playing on either flank as well as in central attacking midfield, Milner’s versatility will Rodgers many options. If the manager does not plan to waste him as a wingback, the 29 year old star can prove to be great for the Reds.
Milner has won every top prize in English football with City and last season scored 8 goals and provided 9 assists playing in different attacking positions. James is a winner, a player who gives his 100% and works his socks off for the team.
With his arrival, Liverpool should play 4-2-3-1. Coutinho taking the left flank, Milner on the right, Sterling (if he stays) behind the striker.
Here is how Liverpool should line up with James Milner.

Keeping Coutinho on the flanks reduces his effectiveness.
I hope Sterling is allowed to move on. There’s nothing worse than having a player in the line-up whose head is elsewhere…Ibe or Lallana should be moved to the flanks with Coutinho in the middle.
Now why would you take Coutinho from his best position in the middle and stick him on the left? And why would you weaken the pace on the left by taking out Sterling and put him in the middle? Milner wants to play in the middle and we stick him out wide right again like he was in Man City?
With James Milner in the team, Liverpool would only look woeful and pathetic!
Let milner play from flank and coutinho behind our striker… Dismiss sterlin and get ibe in line with dem… Buy 3 defender with 1 midfielder and 2 striker…
