Alex Ferguson splashed heavy cash to sign Nani from Sporting Lisbon but the playmaker never reached the heights as fans expected.
Cristiano Ronaldo was the main superstar at Old Trafford when Nani arrived and even after Ronaldo’s departure to Madrid, his compatriot could not become a superstar for the Red Devils.
In came Louis van Gaal last summer and loaned out the Portuguese international to Primeira Liga side Sporting Lisbon.
Since then, Nani has been in brilliant form. In 35 appearances for Sporting this season, the 28 year old star has netted 11 times and provided 8 assists as well.
Not to forget, he scored 4 goals and set up another 2 in 5 Champions League games this season.
The Manchester United loanee has lately confirmed that he will be at Manchester United next season. Nani stated:
“I’m a United player,”
“I always have to go back, but then we’ll see.”
United do need depth and quality in their attack next season. Record signing Di Maria has not lived up to the expectations or price tag as yet.
Whether or not Nani will be given another chance to prove himself at Manchester United next season? We shall see.
