Liverpool defeated Besiktas 1-0 in the first leg of their Round of 32 Europa League tie to take advantage.
Although the Reds were dominant and should have scored more goals, still the major plus point is that they did not concede an away goal.
Just one more goal for the Merseysiders in Turkey can make things ridiculously hard for Besiktas in the second leg.
Brendan Rodgers started with the effective 3-4-2-1 formation and the best players in the setup were the ones playing outwide. Moreno and Ibe.
The Spanish international signed from Sevilla was constantly providing cover at the back and moving ahead to support in attack. On the other hand, Ibe tormented Besiktas’ defense from the word go and he is one of the reasons why Liverpool have not missed star playmaker Raheem Sterling much.
Sterling did play a cameo in the second half coming on from the bench but the main super sub role was played by Italian striker Mario Balotelli who immediately unsettled Besiktas after coming on winning early freekick. Also, calmly slotted the penalty to give Liverpool lead in the tie.
Mario has now scored 4 goals for the club, all coming on very late in the game between 80-90 mins.
