Manchester United have been linked to secure the signing of Dutch international Nigel de Jong for quite some time.
The former Manchester City star who currently plays for Italian side AC Milan will be out of contract in summer.
Reports suggest that De Jong will run down his contract and has reached an agreement with Louis van Gaal to join Manchester United.
De Jong was one of the most important players for Netherlands during the World Cup as he helped his team earn third place in Brazil under the management of Louis van Gaal.
For now, Blind and Carrick play the role of holding midfielder but the duo are better at creativity than forming a solid presence in front of back four like De Jong.
Signing the 30 year old on a free transfer will be massive coup for the Red Devils and he will be an important player in the side.
As per the provided link, Milan are reluctant to meet the contract demands of De Jong and the Dutch star has decided not to renew his contract and move in the summer.
United must also sign a creative midfielder in the next window, someone like Strootman or Vidal will be perfect capture but signing them is easier said than done.
For now, Louis van Gaal must focus on ensuring Champions League football for next season by finishing in the top four.

we don’t need old players who will retire soon we need young players like ander herrera who have pace and can make quick tackles
Isaiah you are correct in the long term, however, consider this thought……..LVG is working on 2 fronts; he is signing young talent to train in his “Dutch” method of playing which takes time but is the future foundation for success. While he waits for this talent to blossom he must deliver financial security of CL football so he needs to bring in proven players who already play his methods to provide the bridge to the future. Don’t be surprised to see both De Jong and and Ron Vlaar signed as part of this process.
tough to not sign a guy of his quality on a Free transfer, wants to come, and is familiar with LVG style.
It cannot hurt
