Manchester United and Arsenal are both in need of defensive reinforcements as that department has let them down badly this season.
Addition of a top quality central defender is a must for both clubs in this transfer window and currently they chase the signature of Villareal defender Gabriel Paulista.
As far as latest reports are concerned, Arsenal are the ones closer to securing £16m Star’s services as Wenger confirmed that talks are progressing well.
Wenger claimed:
“Talks are progressing well. There is no need to say much more at this stage.”
“Talks are slowly progressing but there is a chance we can strike a deal.”
However, as per the provided link Manchester United who have been in search of quality central defender since last summer are ready to hijack the deal and bring Paulista to Old Trafford.
The Red Devils will have to step up swiftly if they are to sign the 24 year old Brazilian international.
If United can jump in with a concrete offer, it is likely that Paulista may choose Man United over Arsenal for a few reasons.
Wages, Arsenal normally tend to restrict themselves to certain pay bracket, United on the other hand pay huge wages to seal their deals if necessary.
Starting Place, Gunners already have their first choice central defense partnership in the form of Koscielny and Mertesacker. Not necessary that Paulista will sit on the bench like Vermaelen but the competition is definitely high.
At Manchester United, he will be a definite starter as Van Gaal currently lacks a top class defender in his squad and Paulista can line up with summer signing Marcos Rojo in central defense.
We shall see how the transfer saga unfolds in the coming days.

It will not happen the way you are suggesting, what makes you think Man Utd will highjack Arsenal deal? Van Gal is a true professional, he will not interfere with a player where Arsenal is at an advanced stage, you should know Van Gaal by now
It was an opinion. Many players diverted their way to another club for the same season.
Van GAA is too too slow in his Manchester united career. And that is hurting the fans a lot. Our expectations was that first day of the January transfer window. Due to the huge defensive problems. But now all he could given to the united fans is valdes which is to poor for a manager with that big reputation. Most of it player like facao should not be out of Manchester united. His appearance in the pitch alone is a treat to the openent and that alone still make him a world striker. He don’t have only one quality but too many qualities. And the other things u manager I urged u to understand u are to make the players happy so to say that in the rest of the competition that are still ahead of u. Thank u
Van caal is not serious and he is not the type of coach that united want he is not active not focous in winning his mentelity are outdatet and the worst of if he didnt like good players he is always writing rubbish in is stupid file to take out player who r proving good in a perticular game so go van caal go go go otu of our prestigious man utd
Your 1st claim is his wage. Arsenal are club with social wage structure. Almost every player that includes ospina, ramsey, jack, santi, giroud, theo, mert, kos etc. are all earning between 60k to 100k per week. And there are widespread reports that we’ll triple his current wage package.2nd one is playing time. He just turned 24 last november and he’s fairly young for a cb. Per’s been inconsistent this season and is already 30. Kos’s been injured throughout this season. The next cb we have is 19 year old chambers who is also our deputy rb. So, he’s our clear third choice cb with a clear path to first team in a couple of seasons. Whereas in man u, you have rojo, smalling, evans. All are young and you still have blind, carrick and fletcher who can all play when needed and has played there this season numerous times. So, it is utd, that has more competition. Then there is a small matter of london vs manchester. And it is reported that he’s already agreed a deal to join arsenal. SO good luck!!!
Players and clubs do not think and behave like fanatics. The reasons given are lame.Arsenal are very thin at the back,if Metesacker is injured then there will be a problem. On wages,Ozil,Podolski,Kocielny,Sanchez and Walcott earn more money compared to more than 90% of Manchester United.Logic
