Manchester United to Sign World Class €61m Star?

Mats Hummels DortmundManchester United had a huge transfer kitty in the summer window and Van Gaal used heavy funds to sign top talent as well.
However, the Dutch manager was unable to reinforce one of the departments that led to Moyes’ downfall at Old Trafford i.e. defense.
Former captain Nemanja Vidic was past his best and same goes for another legendary center back Rio Ferdinand who currently plays for QPR.
Louis van Gaal could not do much to replace such leaders of defense as Marcos Rojo was brought in for CB position even though he was more effective for Argentina as a left back.
Nevertheless, United once again have a huge transfer kitty for the winter window according to reports and want to sign €61m Mats Hummels on priority basis.
As per the provided link, United are also eager to secure Roma’s Strootman and Southampton’s Clyne but can wait for the summer for them. However, they want Hummels to join this month.
Signing Hummels in mid season is easier said than done, United are in a decent position to qualify for next season’s Champions League while Dortmund are struggling in Germany.
Still, Kaisers did qualify for the KO rounds of the CL and there can be a possibility that Hummels as captain would want to help his side for the remainder of the season and move in summer.
Taking into consideration United need a world class central defender desperately in this transfer window to improve their back line and take away some burden from David de Gea, they should splash the above mentioned amount to tempt Dortmund to sell.
Also, they must make a tempting offer to Hummels as well because come summer many top clubs will be back to lure him as well.

What if Moyes had signed the top transfer targets he’d wanted at United when he took over from SAF?
Its well documented that Moyes was a failure during his short time as Manchester United manager but perhaps he’d still be in the job today if he’d been able to complete deals for his top transfer targets during that 1st summer transfer window as well as being ruthless with some of United’s obvious deadwood.
It was common knowledge that Cesc Fabregas was the man Moyes wanted to take over from the retired Paul Scholes, a transfer was close before a last minute change of heart meant the Barca player stayed where he was for 1 more season yet look at Chelsea this season with the Spaniard pulling the strings for them and this one deal could so easily have helped keep Moyes in a job.
Moyes had also wanted Cesc’s Barca teammate Thiago Alcantara or failing that Ilkay Gundogan to partner Fabregas in the United midfield, with very serious interest in both Marco Reus and Gareth Bale which even included a failed €120m bid for the Welshman who choose instead to join Ex-Red Ronaldo at Madrid.
Moyes inherited an aging squad albeit one that had just won yet another Premier League title but the area which needed immediate surgery was the midfield, players like Ferdinand Vidic and Evra were clearly starting to show signs of their age however their reputations were still big enough to mask their weaknesses while replacements could be identified as Moyes flirted with the idea of bringing his ex-player Leighton Baines with him as cover for Evra in an ill fated move along with back up plan Fellaini.
Now had Moyes been able to close deals on the players above United would have had the following players to select from:
    De Gea
    Rafael Ferdinand Vidic Baines
    Reus Fabregas Carrick Bale
    Van Persie Rooney
Yes its fanciful and would have cost almost €200m but these very players were exactly who Moyes wanted at Old Trafford and would have been the 1st of a 2 part plan rebuilding project, if only Moyes had had the pulling power of Mourinho i’m sure he’d have secured these players and still been in the job today.

Moyes probably wasn’t treated or judged fairly but that’s water under the bridge. United must move forward and if Luis is worth 50M, then it’s not hard to believe Hummels is worth 61M. I still would like to see United add some further players in January even if they are Carvalho or Kheidera in midfield and Reus, Suarez or Mueller up front. Coleman or Clyne would also good additions but not needed as greatly as CB or defensive midfielder. I hope United stay away from Alves; IMHO, it would have been better to have kept Evra. Give Raphael a chance to re-establish himself.
