Despite not playing at the optimum level, Liverpool have been in decent form and must continue to improve if they want the top 4 spot.
The Reds defeated Sunderland in their last league game thanks to a goal from summer signing Markovic who was brilliant on the day and also because of their solid defense for a change.
The new 3-4-2-1 system is working well for Brendan Rodgers and they will have star playmaker Raheem Sterling back for the next game against Aston Villa. Rodgers confirmed:
“He (Sterling) will be back next week,”
Other than that, Liverpool have had more than a few injury concerns and three stars are expected to be fit and may make the squad against Villa.
As per PhysioRoom, the likes of Brad Jones, Joe Allen and Glen Johnson are set to return for the game on 17th January.
Not sure of Rodgers will have any one of them in his plans for the starting XI especially after coming back from the injury concerns.
Reds are currently 5 points behind arch rivals Manchester United who currently occupy the final Champions League qualification spot.
With Arsenal, Tottenham and Southampton in the running as well, Liverpool will need to improve their form to a large extent if they are to finish in top 4 again.
