Chelsea were already on top of the Barclays premier league before last game but only because of the alphabetical order. However, now the Blues have two points lead as City drew against Everton.
Jose Mourinho’s men suffered their first defeat against Newcastle United but with no Pardew around this time and home advantage meant that Chelsea cruised to victory.
Goals from Oscar and Diego Costa in each half respectively earned the league leaders all three points.
Meanwhile, Manchester City’s lack of concentration cost them points at Goodison park. Fernandinho opened the scoring late in the second half in the 74th minute.
However, four minutes later Naismith leveled the scores much to the despair of travelling City supporters.
Pellegrini’s men defeated Everton 1-0 when the two teams collided last month. Talismanic Argentine international Sergio Aguero did come back to make an appearance from the bench but was not as sharp as he was before the injury.
Chelsea will hope that they can extend the lead at the top of table even further next weekend as City face a tough fixture at the Etihad stadium against Arsenal.
On the other hand, the Blues will be travelling to play against Swansea City next weekend.
Not to forget, Chelsea and Manchester City will collide at Stamford Bridge on 31st January in a match that could well prove decisive in the title race.
