In the summer transfer window, Manchester United were after two key midfielders but could not even lure one.
The priority midfielder signing targeted by Van Gaal was his compatriot and Roma star Kevin Strootman but since he was injured, United turned attention to Juve star Arturo Vidal.
However, in the end, Van Gaal lured Herrera and Blind for the midfield positions but still lack quality, experience as well as depth in that department.
Manchester United have now been handed a major boost for the winter transfer window as Kevin Strootman has told Roma that he wants to join the Old Trafford club in January.
The Netherlands star suffered a major injury last March and even missed the World Cup.
The former PSV star is one of Van Gaal’s favorite players and the Dutch coach has been tracking Kevin for quite some time.
Now that Strootman has returned to training and is expected to return to first team action this month, Van Gaal continues to keep an eye on him and want him to play for United.
As per the provided link, Kevin Strootman currently earns only €32,000 a week with Roma and United will triple his wages and surely such a prospect attracts the Dutch star.
He was one of Roma’s key player before injury but in his absence the Serie A side has still done well.
With both Van Gaal and Strootman looking to United, it will be hard for Roma to keep him and perhaps in January the versatile midfielder may finally join Man United.
Roma only splashed €19m to sign Kevin and will never let him leave the club for cheap, that is for sure.
