Having just watched what overall was a shambles of a first half, I am really fearful of what may end up as the final score. Ronaldo’s goal was class, however, the second and third goals were pathetic. No defense whatsoever and as for the third goal, Mignolet, that 18 yard box is supposed to be yours. You are supposed to own it. You did nothing but back off the ball in stead of coming to claim it. That does not exclude however, the other players around you that could not and did not clear the ball. That said, and hats off to him, at least Coutinho had a shot which of course hit the post, That might have instilled a bit of confidence in the side prior to the second half.

Got say Brendan, looking at the starting line up, I believe your formation 4-3-3 was the wrong choice and I aware it is easier to say that after fact and also from an armchair. A 4-4-2 or even a 4-4-1-1, giving the midfield an extra man and an extra one on the back line. It still would have had one up front with 1 sitting in right behind. However, it needs to be remembered though, this is Real Madrid, but it would at least be something to achieve something. They are at Anfield, after all.

Very, very disappointing and generally flat second half. The pace overall was slow and pedestrian. Not what the supporters and Liverpool hierarchy would have wanted. There were one or two chances that might have been able to make an impact but we could not take those chances. We can only hope now that results from the teams around us go in our favor otherwise, the long awaited return to Champions League, will be over prematurely.
