After breaking their transfer record in the January transfer window on signing Juan Mata from Chelsea, Manchester United did not take long to break it again in the summer.
Record sum was paid to hire the services of Argentine international Angel Di Maria from Real Madrid.
Without a shadow of a doubt, since his arrival, he has been the best star for the Old Trafford club and is already justifying his mammoth price tag.
However, Real Madrid boss Carlo Ancelotti claims that the European champions wanted to keep Di Maria.
Even though the former Benfica winger had a lot of competition with the arrival of Colombian playmaker James Rodriguez from Monaco, he could have had a future with the club but wanted more money.
According to Mirror, Real Madrid had no choice left but to sell Angel Di Maria to Man United because the Argentine star wanted more money.
Di Maria is currently the third highest earner at Manchester United behind captain Wayne Rooney and summer signing Radamel Falcao who arrived from Monaco on loan.
Ancelotti claims that he was completely backing the Real Madrid’s stance of rejecting Di Maria’s demands and just had to let him leave. He stated:
“Di Maria? I was in agreement with the club. There are times when the club needs to say no.”
Nevertheless, Madrid have enough firepower upfront and whether they will miss Di Maria, only time will tell whereas Manchester United are already getting fruitful results from their record signing.
