Manchester United’s chase for central defender continues as they look for available options in the winter transfer window.
With Arsenal heavily linked with a move for Hummels, Manchester United are in the limelight for securing the services of Dutch international Ron Vlaar from Aston Villa.
Vlaar was the main commanding leader of defense in the Netherlands squad during the World Cup and Van Gaal is well aware of his qualities.
Moreover, with his contract expiring at the end of this season, the Dutch manager cannot possible find a better bargain deal and looks to sign his compatriot.
Ron Vlaar himself is keen to make Old Trafford switch and join Van Gaal. Reports suggest that he has already agreed personal terms on provisional basis to join Manchester United.
However, Aston Villa are ready to make things difficult for the Red Devils.
Villa and Lambert are well aware of the fact that United are in desperate need of a top defender and may not wait for Vlaar’s contract to expire till summer. That might even cost them UCL place for next season, who knows.
Hence, as per the provided link, Villa have slapped a price tag of 12 million pounds on their captain and that is the sum United might have to pay in the end to lure Vlaar.
The mentioned price tag is by all means very high for a player who will turn 30 next February and will have his contract expired in 6 months.
Whether or not United will be adamant and pay over the odds to secure Vlaar signing, only time will tell.

Yes! time is the essence. Hummels is totally out of the scene. He will not leave BD for now. Man Utd needs to find a reliable with strong leadership defender, for this interim period. Vlaar makes a clear obvious choice. Go and pay and get him. Let us secure the Champion League position, then Man Utd don’t have to plea this defenders, they will come automatically.
12m for Vlaar? That is obviously ridiculous. He’s not worth more than 4m – considering his contract situation and age.
Just forget abt hummel for now and go for shawcross, paying 12m for a 29yr old and who’s conract is expiring in less than six months is too much.
I think VLaar would be a good addition to united. He is at his best form this season. An area battle master and a professional tackle grim. 12m is much but I will go for him. UCl spot is our most pirority now.
Vlaar is a good defender. I think he’d beable to reinforce united defense and make it stronger… I’m sure vlaar will still be bought around that £4m.
Vlaar would ask for a 4 year contract and its not wise to invest in someone just for one season.
Play Smalling & Jones and rotate with Evans. Wait for the news season and invest in a player 24-27 years old. I believe that Smalling and Jones have the will and drive to perform this season. Look at what happend to Pique when he left Manutd. He became one of the worlds best defenders.
With van Gaal there, we are in good hands!!!
Obvious answer is to SWAP – They sign Cleverley permanently and we take Vlaar – both players are in the same contract situation – Cleverley has a slightly higher value and Villa want him – everyone can market the deal as a win – it is no surprise that for the last couple of days Utd’s backroom staff have been touting that Cleverley could return…..
Good defender, but way to much 3-6 million is all he’s really worth with his age and contract situation
12 million is expensive for a player who is 29 years old and left a contract period less than a year we can use cleverly as part of the deal and make it simple
Vlaar is very cheep for 12m is better mats hummels anything in football……
good move, but he is not worth more than £5m.
Just get him. We don’t have a choice.
Vlaar is a good defender, but 4m is more than enough for him, considering his age and contract with villa. Shawcross is even a beter option because of his old traford experience
