Manchester United have been after quality versatile midfielders all summer but failed to really amplify the quality of the department.
They did secure the signing of long term target Ander Herrera from Athetlic Bilbao but one player was never the answer to solve United’s midfield dilemma.
Red Devils were keen to sign Arturo Vidal from Juventus as well but that saga dragged for long during the summer window and the deal never happened.
In the end, United opted to buy Daley Blind from Ajax who can play as central defensive midfielder but remains to be seen where Van Gaal will play him for United as he was mainly played as LWB for Netherlands.
Van Gaal’s primary target was Kevin Strootman of Roma, one of his favorite players but the Serie A star was injured, an injury that meant he missed the World Cup and even remains sidelined for now.
However, he will be fit sooner rather than later and according to Goal, Manchester United are very confident they will secure the signing of Strootman for €31m.
As per the provided link, United will launch the above mentioned bid for the Dutch star and will offer him €125,000 a week in wages to secure his signing.
Louis van Gaal will have ample funds for the winter transfer window as well and it seems that the midfielder signing of Kevin Strootman will be his priority if his injury concerns are over.
