Under the management of David Moyes, Manchester United were heavily interested in luring Sporting Lisbon star William Carvalho.
The versatile defensive midfielder was monitored by United scouts on several occasions and Moyes was keen to lure him as well.
However, when Louis van Gaal arrived, the interest in the Portuguese star cooled down just like it was the case with Toni Kroos.
Instead of Kroos, United opted to sign Ander Herrera from Athletic Bilbao and instead of focusing on Carvalho, United have been chasing Arturo Vidal.
Sicne then, Arsenal have been the ones eager to lure the holding midfielder from Primeira Liga in the form of William Carvalho.
However, as per latest reports, Manchester United are back in contention and are perhaps leading the race to sign Carvalho.
According to Independent, the Red Devils are ready to end their interest in Juventus star Arturo Vidal because of Chilean’s constant knee concerns and are now closing in to secure Carvalho signing for $40m.
As per the provided link, William Carvalho’s agent, Jorge Mendes who is also the agent of Angel Di Maria is still in Manchester to help United sign the Sporting star for a cut price.
The mentioned sum of $40m is very low as compared to Carvalho’s buy-out clause that is around $75m.
Carvalho is a natural defensive midfielder unlike Vidal and can be perfect for Manchester United playing alongside creative mid Ander Herrera. We shall see how the transfer saga unfolds in the coming days.

Don’t wast time on Vidal, get Cavalho,or there are midfielders that can do better than him, time is running out,we also need a defender.
Bring Carvalho, De jung and Blind before sep. 2
Leave this vidal and go for calvanho or blind. He is playing games with us yet time is running short. Sami khedira is also a better option. Go man u go.

Without 3 more signing, united finish seventh.
