Since the appointment of Louis van Gaal as Manchester United boss, one midfielder has mainly been in the limelight.
The player in discussion is Netherlands and Roma’s midfield star Kevin Strootman.
Strootman is one of Van Gaal’s favorite player and has been heavily linked with a move to Old Trafford.
The Dutch star made a fantastic start to his Serie A career but in March 2014, a long term injury not only ruined his season but also meant that he will miss the upcoming World Cup.
According to reports in Holland as well as Italy, Manchester United are close to sealing a deal for $47m versatile midfielder.
Roma want to keep the former PSV player who they only signed last summer but will be ready to listen to offers if it is in the region of the above mentioned price tag.
As per the provided link, if United splash the hefty amount, Roma will be ready to work on the transfer and given that Manchester United have over 200m for transfers, it will be no issue for them to sign Strootman.
The only problem is that United desperately need new midfielders before the start of new season. However, Kevin Strootman is likley to be still be injured come next August, in fact he might have to wait till December or new year to start for United.
In such a scenario, Van Gaal should actually wait for the Winter window to lure his compatriot and meanwhile focus on other targets but it will come as no surprise if United sign him this summer.
