Baffling! Liverpool to Meet Markovic's Clause but Ignore Moreno

Brendan Rodgers LiverpoolWhether Luis Suarez leaves Liverpool this summer or not, the foundations have been laid by Brendan Rodgers and their attack is already brilliant.
If the Uruguayan does leave, Liverpool will surely look for a few attacking players to fill the void but the question is, when will they focus on the defensive department.
The merseysiders scored over 100 league goals last season but conceded over 50 goals as well and that is what cost them the title.
Their defensive fragility is well known but for now Liverpool have signed Rickie Lambert to further reinforce attack and Emre Can for central midfield role. Moreover, they are close to signing another playmaker in Adam Lallana.
The list does not end there. According to latest reports, Reds are really keen on luring Benfica winger Lazar Markovic and are ready to meet his release clause of £25m.
Baffling part is that lately Liverpool were having talks with Sevilla to hire the services of Spanish full back Alberto Moreno who had a brilliant season with the La Liga side last term but have now pulled the plug.
For Moreno, Liverpool’s pursuit is over as they failed to agree a fee. Sevilla director claimed:

“The matter of Alberto is practically settled. We couldn’t reach an agreement and I don’t think it can be revived.”

As per provided link, the fee is reportedly £20m. Is it not complete insanity if Liverpool are ready to pay over £20m for both Lallana and Markovic but do not meet the asking price of much needed defender in Moreno.
Fans will be hoping that Brendan knows what he is doing and the manager will eventually sort out the defensive problems with top signings as soon as possible.

its baffling why lfc will spend 25mill on lallana whiles 30-34mill will secure both shaqiri and firmino. both of which have quality in attack than lallana and firmino has defensive ability. a clear case of overpricn british players. and now lazar!

Ricardo Rodríguez of Wolfsburg is the left back Liverpool should buy as he’d seriously improve the team. Moreno is way overrated and not great at defending or attacking.

I thought Liverpool were pursuing or at least very interested in De Vrij. Now I am reading that a deal with Manchester United is all but done. As this is an area that Liverpool desperately need to pay attention too, I am confused as to why a team that dropped down to 7th beat Liverpool to one of their targets. Was Liverpool ever really serious about him?
