Manchester United will have to find a new defensive leader as Nemanja Vidic will depart the club at the end of the season.
The Red Devils have been really poor at the back this season and every defender has played far from his best for the club.
Therefore, David Moyes is looking to sign quality players for for his defensive setup and numerous stars have been linked.
Lately, according to reports, Manchester United are in fact leading the race to sign yet another Arsenal star Thomas Vermaelen.
Vermaelen was signed by the London club in 2009 and not so long ago he was one of the key players of Arsenal, to an extent that he was handed the captain’s armband after Robin van Persie departed to Old Trafford.
However, since then, the Belgian star has lost his top form and inevitably lost his starting place to solid pair of Mertesacker and Koscielny.
As per the provided link, Vermaelen has told Wenger that he wants to quit Arsenal in summer and on the other hand, Man United are prepared to offer $25m for the 28 year old defender.
Strange decision by Moyes as splashing cash on Thomas might be a gamble because of his inconsistent form.
Will Arsene Wenger be willing to let Vermaelen join United knowing that he is not one of his best players. $25m is a decent sum and Wenger can utilize to sign a quality replacement as well.
