Why Liverpool must Continue Diamond instead of 4-2-3-1

Sturridge and Suarez SAS LiverpoolGoes without saying that Liverpool have the best attack in the premier league at the moment and so versatile that every combination up front has worked for the Reds.
The quartet of Suarez, Sturridge, Coutinho and Sterling have been shifted in different positions by Rodgers and all have been fruitful.
Midfield and mainly defense were/are Liverpool’s major concerns but in the last two games Liverpool conceded none against decent oppositions playing diamond 4-1-2-1-2 formation with trio of Gerrard, Allen and Henderson in midfield.
Moreover, even after keeping Coutinho and Sterling out of the starting lineup for the respective games against United and Saints, Liverpool’s brilliant attack was not influenced adversely. Instead, the defense has largely improved.
Although the Merseysiders did rip apart Arsenal, Everton and scored 4 goals against Swansea with the 4-2-3-1 formation but they did concede 2 against Fulham , 3 against Swans, had shaky moments in most away games and were largely helped by the potent attack to earn all three points.
Gerrard has been good playing as a deep lying playmaker and defensive mid, but at his age, he does need little support when it comes to performing defensive duties. That makes things a lot more easier for him as it was evident in the game against United.
In 4-2-3-1, Henderson has been the one playing alongside him in the midfield but the England star has the tendency to move forward in attack leaving Gerrard alone on the counters and vulnerable at times.
In 4-1-2-1-2, Gerrard has been guarding the back four with constant support of either Allen or Henderson or both but never as a lone figure. As seen in the game against United, One of Henderson or Allen did drive forward and the other used to sit back to help in defense.
The main reason why Liverpool completely dominated United was because they won the midfield battle with ease.
Having said that, 4-2-3-1 is a brilliant counter attacking formation but with Liverpool’s relatively weak defense it should be used against weaker oppositions more or perhaps at Home.
Lastly, in Champions League, solid defense is significant and Liverpool were mainly so successful under Benitez because of the same.

It is a dream attacking line
we only need to focus on defending because you know that the front two wont miss many chances
