Blues have numerous world class attacking midfielders but seriously lack a prolific striker upfront.
Didier Drogba was the real deal but since his departure, Chelsea have only had average strikers or they utilized them in the worst possible way.
With no transfer window coming up, Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho must leartn from what he saw against Fulham and utilize their German star Schurrle as a striker.
The likes of Fernando Torres, Demba Ba and Samuel Eto’o have been largely inconsistent and Chelsea have relied too heavily on their AMs.
Last season Schurrle was mainly used as a secondary striker at Bayer Leverkusen and in Bundesliga, he directly contributed in no less than 18 goals (scoring 11, setting up 7).
Schurrle signed for Blues last summer for a fee of €22m
In the last league game against Fulham, Schurrle silenced the critics by scoring a wonderful hattrick and showed what Chelsea really need to do i.e. play him as a lone striker.
It is not that Chelsea’s attacking midfield have not created chances for strikers, it is just that Blues’s strikers are past their best and have wasted many.
On the other hand, Schurrle showed what they have been missing as he took his chances brilliantly.
The Kaiser star can function well with the likes of Oscar, Hazard and Willian playing behind him in attacking midfield.
