Former Manchester Untied keeper Roy Carroll has blasted the current group of players for showing a lack of spirit and hunger under new manager David Moyes. He has accused them of lacking the desire to win. A characteristic that made Manchester United such a fearsome club.
The 36 year old from Northern Ireland watched on as his team mates embarrassed his former club by winning the home leg 2-0 comfortably.
Ahmed of his national teams friendly against Cyprus he told Sky Sports News
“(The first-leg win) was a shock for a lot of press people but the players knew themselves they had a chance. “
“We watched a lot of Premier League games this season and knew United had not been performing. On the night when I was watching it live from the stands, I’ve never seen a Manchester United team like it.”
“They’ve got good players but they had no hunger, no fight in the team so it was a shock in that way but not a shock the way we played. The goals we got were well deserved.
“At the end of the day you can be a good player but you have to give 100 per cent and give everything.
“For me Manchester United didn’t give that and looked like they had no hunger and fight for the game.”
I don’t know if they thought they would get an easy game but no professional should go into a football match and think that.”
He continued to add on that the players at Manchester United had started to slack off since Sir Alex Ferguson left the club. Many fans would agree with that statement as United have slumped to 4 defeats this season at home in the Premier League alone, including to Everton and West Brom. United have also suffered embarrassing exits from both domestic cups to Swansea (FA Cup) and Sunderland (Capital One Cup).
However as the Home leg to Olympiacos on the 19th of March edges closer Manchester United fans will be hoping that the players and the manager can prove Carroll wrong and avoid another cup exit by rekindling some of the burning spirit for hunger and desire that once made Old Trafford a fortress.

For a Manager like Moyes who cannot motivate players, has idiotic tactics, crap interviews, no man management skills….one cannot blame the players at all for not showing enough hunger when the manager cannot drive them
Sometimes I do ask myself wat does dis Man moyes teach diz players in training but to be frankly dere is a lot of player in man utd team who doesn’t even deserve to play for man utd (flops) de likes of ashley young..welbeck..ferdinand..smallng..nd cleverly dey are all FLOPS….de problem with man utd team is de Coach(Moyes) he is confused.I dnt see man utd team Wining olympiakos with does Flops of players ….wat pains me More is dat dey re nt aggressive nd ruthless as dey use to be….Weak team!!!!…dey will only survive diz nightmare if dey start to be aggresive nd ruthless lyk atl.madrid team…I admire dat team a lot.
The manager might not be up to the job yet however that should be no excuse for players not to give 100% every single time they go out. They are very well paid professionals and that is what they are expected to do. If they don’t play for the manager the least they can do is play for the badge!
