Liverpool registered their 7th consecutive premier league win for the first time since 2005-2006 season to move second again.
Such is the competition in the title race that the merseysiders perhaps have to win the 7 remaining games as well if they are to win the title.
With Chelsea one point ahead and still have to visit Anfield, Liverpool will hope that high flying Manchester City drop points at the Emirates on Saturday to make things more favorable as the Sky Blues have to visit Reds as well.
Last night’s win against Sunderland was another vital one and perhaps for the first time after Fulham game, Liverpool fans had their hearts beating fast with the team just seeing off the Black Cats in nervy final 15 minutes.
Gus Poyet had his tactics spot on and stopped Liverpool’s waves of attack constantly. It took a brilliant set piece strike from Steven Gerrard to give home side the lead. Sturridge doubled the lead in the second half and it all looked comfortable for the merseysiders.
On another day Suarez could have scored a few goals but his shooting was wayward. He had an okay game but that because he is rated on ridiculous standards.
However, the game changed as Sunderland brought Ki and Johnson on. The former impressed big time and thanks to Liverpool’s shaky defense (again) scored an easy header.
The Reds could have easily dropped points but a little luck was required. Liverpool are playing every game as a cup final, 7 more to go. Next up, they face Tottenham on Sunday who will have revenge on their minds as Rodgers’s men thrashed them at White Hart Lane 5-0, that too without Gerrard and Sturridge.
