Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers lately admired Chelsea’s boss Jose Mourinho and claimed that without a doubt he has learned a lot from the Special One.
Now, for the first time both managers will collide in a very significant fixture as far as title race is concerned. Liverpool are fourth, just one point behind Chelsea as they visit Mourinho’s fortress Stamford Bridge.
Here are the 3 key battles that may decide the outcome of the game between Chelsea and Liverpool.
John Terry vs Luis Suarez
The battle between the captains is going to be most intriguing. Chelsea’s leader John Terry vs arguably the best player in the world right now Luis Suarez. They key to beat Liverpool is to keep him quiet. Reds have lost 4 out of 5 games in which Uruguayan has not scored this season.
Scoring is just one of his world class talents. Against City, he created 4 golden chances from which only one was taken and one was wrongly ruled offside. Can Terry stop him, we shall see but on current form Luis should be favorite.
Eden Hazard vs Glen Johnson
The Belgian international Eden Hazard has been Chelsea’s best player this season and will be up against one of Liverpool’s worst defender this year Glen Johnson.
Liverpool squad is very thin as far as depth in quality is concerned and Johnson has been largely inconsistent this season. He does add to their attacking powers but defensively average. Johnson has to be on his toes to stop Hazard.
Petr Cech vs Simon Mignolet
The battle between the two goalies will be vital. Both teams have showed vulnerability in their defensive department and keepers have to step up. Cech will be up against one of the best attacks in the league. No team has scored more PL goals than Liverpool as yet in calender year 2013. Again, Suarez is going to be massive.
On the other hand, Mignolet lately made a costly error against the Citizens on boxing day that eventually proved to be the winner for the sky Blues. He will look to bounce back from that blip.
