Despite not playing the best of football, Spurs are flying high in the premier league being joint second with Liverpool and Chelsea.
Spurs defense has been solid but Andre Villas Boas wants more reinforcements in that department as per the latest reports.
According to ESPN, Tottenham are back in contention to sign Real Madrid left back Fabio Coentrao.
Los Blancos splashed a hefty sum to sign the Portuguese defender during Mourinho’s reign. However, new manager Carlo Ancelotti prefers Brazilian Marcelo for the starting place.
The situation is turning complex for Coentrao who wants regular football and a loan move to Tottenham might be possible.
Tottenham tried to sign the €15m versatile defender in summer as well but the deal never happened. They will hope to seal the deal in the winter transfer window.
Coentrao has only made 4 league appearances for Los Blancos this season.
Spurs on the other hand are utilizing Belgian international Jan Vertonghen as left back, which is not his natural position and a quality addition for LB is required.
The former Ajax star claimed that he is not a specialist playing at left back and has to play because of injuries.
Signing Coentrao will largely improve Tottenham’s defense and adding to that, his pace and deliveries are a major plus in helping in attack as well.
