Not many predicted that come December, Arsenal and Liverpool will be the top two teams in the premier league as both sides have squads that are not strong as compared to the likes of Chelsea and Manchester City.
However, up till now, Gunners and Reds have proved the doubters wrong by playing top quality football and above all showing consistency.
Still, both sides need more quality players to achieve their objectives. Arsenal are lacking depth in the striking department. While Liverpool’s weakest link is their central midfield.
According to reports, €24m midfield star, Newcastle’s Yohan Cabaye will be looking to move to play in Champions League next summer with Arsenal and Liverpool interested. Gunners tried with a 10 million pounds bid last summer but NUFC want the price mentioned in bold.
It is too early to predict the top 4 teams in the English league this season as the competition is very high. Let’s presume that Arsenal and Liverpool will qualify for the CL next season.
Liverpool badly need a regista. Again mentioning Alonso becomes compulsory as they have still not replaced him. With the Spaniard extending his stay at Madrid, Cabaye is a brilliant and realistic option for the Reds.
It has been debated that Gerrard is doing that role well but against quality oppositions, we have seen how the captain fantastic has failed. Arsenal clearly outclassed Liverpool in the midfield battle when the Anfield side visited Emirates few weeks back.
On the other hand, as far as Arsenal are concerned, they have more than a few quality central midfielders like Ramsey, Arteta, Wilshere but Arsene Wenger has still shown keen interest in signing Cabaye and recently praised him for his performance for the national side.
Adding to that, with Wenger famous for signing French stars, he may as well use that connection to beat Reds and sign Cabaye.
Therefore, perhaps Arsenal will be favorites to lure him next summer but well, Liverpool can always prove that wrong.
