Alex Ferguson has finally revealed his autobiography and since then his statements have taken over the entire media.
The legendary Manchester United manager has heavily criticized the very best of players, even United’s influential former captain Roy Keane.
Understandable that players like Gerrard, Lampard, Beckham, Keane made the book but one player surely did not expect his name in it.
That player is former Reds winger, Stewart Downing who currently plays for West Ham United.
There is no doubt that making Ferguson’s book is a massive milestone for Ex-Liverpool winger as he was such a superstar with merseysiders.
Ferguson states, rather slates:
“Stewart Downing cost £20million. He had talent but was not the bravest or quickest. £20million?”
The England international cost Liverpool a heavy sum after his decent performances for Aston Villa. However, he could not even score ONE goal or provide even ONE assist in his first premier league campaign.
Not to forget, the winger played more than 30 premier league games and held that astonishing record.
Signing of Downing for 20 million pounds haunted Alex Ferguson. Surely it haunted the Liverpool football club and their supporters more.
Kenny Dalglish wasted a lot of $$$ on average British players such as Adam, Carroll, Downing and even Henderson has not yet proved his worth.
But well, of all the legendary signings Kenny made, Downing should be glad he made Ferguson’s book.
Says the same man who signed Berbaflop, Veron, Dejmba Djemba, Taibi, Kleberson, Forlan, Anderson and Young!
One name says it all, Bebe!
