Looks like Alex Ferguson will have to release a new book that will be full of apologies for players he has talked utter rubbish in his autobiography.
Doubting Steven Gerrard’s world class quality was perhaps the most idiotic statement and the Liverpool captain did not need a word to say as managers and former stars have already come up to defend him.
Lately legendary Zidane claimed that he found Fergie’s statement strange and Gerrard was surely the best midfielder in the world for two or three years.
Ferguson targeting Liverpool players was understandable, he could not stop his urge but to slate his own former Man United players was baffling.
Roy Keane, one of the best midfielders and captain the premier league has ever seen was criticized and the Irish star did not hold back with his reply to the legendary manager.
Another Ex Man United star Owen Hargreaves was described by Fergie as a disaster signing. Hargreaves has humbly replied to make a fool out of Ferguson. He stated:
“The reason he bought me over was for me to help United win the Champions League and I was able to play a big part in that [in 2008]. Then after the treatment I had in the summer I virtually never played again.”
“For any player to be 27, central to United’s and England’s plans and not play again really, I wouldn’t wish that on my worst enemy.”
There is no denying the fact that Hargreaves was one of the best holding midfielders in his prime. Surely the best England has seen in a long long time. Was awarded 2006 player of the year for the national side.
Former Munich star used to run tirelessly breaking play, helping his team mates win possession and was pivotal part of United’s premier league and Chapions league winning side in 2007-2008. One of the top signings that season.
However, Hargreaves suffered a massive career ending injury and it is utter shame for a manager of Ferguson’s stature to call him a disaster signing because of that. He gave his all when on the field but unfortunately could only play 27 league games for United. Hargreaves retired at the age of 31 as he could never recover.
