Liverpool – FSG Transfer Policy Favors Move for Xabi Alonso Next Summer

Liverpool - FSG Transfer Policy Favors Move for Alonso Next SummerSince Liverpool’s pass magician Xabi Alonso left the club in 2009 to join Real Madrid, the Reds supporters have been wanting him to return.
The reasons are obvious; he is one player that Liverpool have been unable to replace. Alonso’s calmness on the ball, his sublime passing and ability to direct play are still missed.
Los Blancos star has been linked with Reds for the past few seasons and even now reports suggest that Liverpool are looking to lure the Spaniard back to Anfield.
Alonso will turn 32 in November and Reds are not renowned for spending on players above 30. FSG transfer policy is clearly based on youth.
However, as far as things have gone by, Liverpool perhaps do have a policy to sign players who are 30+ and that policy favors move for Alonso next summer.
Since FSG took over Liverpool football club, they have signed three veterans over the age of 30, and all of them have been free transfers. List of the players are as follows.

  • Craig Bellamy (32) – Manchester City
  • Alexander Doni (31) – Roma
  • Kolo Toure (32) – Manchester City

Xabi Alonso is currently on his final year of the contract with Real Madrid and the Spanish giants have so many players to choose from for the midfield position that includes Khedira, Modric and 30m signing Illaramendi.
Chances are there that Alonso may not renew or Madrid may not renew his contract and he will be available for free next summer.
He loves Liverpool, that much the footballing world knows and perhaps Reds can be considered favorites to lure their former star despite the reported interest from Juventus and Milan clubs.
Lastly, Liverpool also have the likes of Gerrard, Lucas, Allen, Henderson available for center midfield positions. Will Rodgers look to sign him next summer if he is available for free? He really should.

He would be a massive improvement to the team if he comes back, It all went downhill for Liverpool when he left.
