Arsenal and Liverpool are reportedly keen on signing highly rated Keisuke Honda for free in the January transfer window.
The Japanese international will be out of contract in winter and is not going to extend his stay with Russian club CSKA Moscow.
Honda is one of the best Asian players in the world and one of his main assets is versatility. Brendan Rodgers is always looking for versatile talent and 27 year old Honda completely fits the bill.
Honda can play as a second striker, as a left winger, as a central attacking midfielder and even as a deep lying playmaker. Also, he is a dead ball specialist, capable of scoring stunning free kick goals from long range.
Such qualities will surely interest many top European clubs and Honda will weigh out his options in January. He claimed:
“I have many choices, but I want to compare as much as possible.”
“I don’t think there’s a chance I will stay in Russia.”
Arsenal have already signed Mesut Ozil from Real Madrid even in the presence of Cazorla. Surely they do not need another left footed player in the attack and the two mentioned are clearly better than Honda.
Gunners priority should be improving strike force and defense.
Liverpool, on the other hand have largely reinforced their defense this summer but failed to sign a top attacking player and eventually got Moses on loan from Chelsea.
Honda can be that versatile player to switch sides with Coutinho from center to left wing. On the other hand, his distribution and passing is quality as well and can be used as a deep lying playmaker especially against weaker oppositions.
Last season, in 23 league appearances Honda scored 7 goals and provided 6 assists. Reds should start making a move for the highly talented Japanese and will have to act swiftly if they want to lure him to Anfield. Such a quality player that too for free will be a major coup.

Let me put it this way, I hugely doubt that Liverpool will be signing Honda.
Know thanks,he’ll want a wedge & doesn’t deserve it.
He’s a decent player so somebody has to go for him.
Sounds good but dont think its going to happen. Brendan has his eye set elsewhere.
