Jonjo Shelvey was a bright young prospect for Liverpool, however he departed this summer to find first team football.
The talent was clear, but Liverpool had so many options in the center that Shelvey usually had to warm the bench.
In the end, Shelvey opted to depart to sign for Rodgers’s former club Swansea for a deal worth 5 million pounds.
Shelvey just had to quit Liverpool and claims that he made the right choice for his career.
The England international claimed:
“Brendan told me I could stay there and see what happened. It really was my choice. I wasn’t pushed,”
“But I wanted to play football. I would hate to be one of those sitting on my money.”
Shelvey also stated that it is impossible to keep Steven Gerrard out of the starting lineup as the captain is hardly out of form and still injury free.
Jonjo’s frustration was inevitable as he could only start 9 times in the league last season.
Brendan Rodgers sold the likes of Downing, Carroll along with Shelvey and that helped Reds improve their squad in the summer transfer window.

I thought Brendan had big plans for him as well. Hope he does well at Swansea this season.
