They normally do not start in the premier league but for the time, they are being proving to be better than the managers’ preferred choices.
Fernando Torres and Jermain defore started for their respective sides last night in the Capital One Cup.
Chelsea defeated Swindon 2-0 and Torres was their star player, while Tottenham ousted Aston Villa and Jermain Defoe once again scored twice.
Torres has only started a single league game for the Blues (3 substitute appearances) whereas Defoe has started none and made 3 sub appearances as well. Both have scored none and provided no assists.
However, when given the nod to start ahead of Eto’o and Soldado, Torres and Defoe have proved to be the better option.
Although, there is no point judging Eto’o and Soldado that early in their first seasons and I am not doing that, still Torres and Defoe deserve to retain their places for the upcoming fixture at White Hart Lane.
Tottenham now have a brilliant squad and the strength of their depth was clearly on show last night as they dismantled Villa in their own backyward.
Whether Torres and Defoe will keep their starting places at the weekend, we shall see, watch, we must.

Fernando Torres and Jermain Defoe to Retain their Places?

In answer to your headline.
Yes they will retain their places in their teams cup side.
Soldado has been caught offside once all season. Defoe took just 32 mins to break that record. Build.up play can all be undone by mindless runs. Its an easy.way to give the ball back to opposition. Yes JD is scoring but Robbie’s all round play is 100 times more productive and no doubt the goals will come.
