The world’s best club competition is back, UEFA Champions League, the indefensible trophy, will that change this season, we shall see.
Bayern Munich deserved the title last season and now new manager Pep Guardiola has the task to make the impossible happen.
English teams will fancy their chances. The last English side to win the competition was Chelsea in 2012. Here are the MatchDay 1 predictions as far as English sides are concerned.
Manchester United vs Bayer Leverkusen
The English champions will face Bayer Leverkusen on the opening day. Leverkusen finished 3rd in Bundesliga last season and have improved massively under the management of Liverpool legend Sami Hyppia.

Plzen vs Manchester City
Citizens failed to win a single game in last year’s campaign and this time it looks that all their focus is on the Champions league as they rested 6 players for their PL game against Stoke. Plzen, relatively quite weak side and City should be able to start strongly with a win.

Chelsea vs Basel
Jose Mourinho’s men will look to bounce back from Saturday’s deafeat to win against Swiss champions Basel. The current Europa league holders should be favorite at Stamford Bridge. Adding to that, Jose’s Chelsea will likely be a strong contender for the title after dropping out of the group stage last time.

Marseille vs Arsenal
Arsenal find themselves in the group of death and a fixture against Marseille is perhaps the easiest. Nevertheless, gunners will be playing away and must make sure that they win this tie before facing the likes of Dortmund and Napoli later.
