Unlucky Chelsea Lose European Super Cup Again

Unlucky Chelsea Lose European Super Cup AgainLast year, then European Champions Chelsea were demolished by Atletico Madrid in European Super Cup as star striker Radamel Falcao was too hot to handle. This year, Chelsea were so close to lifting the prize but luck did not favor them.

Repeat of Champions League final 2012 was on show as Bayern Munich and Chelsea battled for the title, more importantly it was once again Mourinho vs Guardiola.

Mourinho had only won 3 out of 15 meetings against Guardiola and the game was in his hands until the very final kick of the ball in extra time.

Chelsea started the game brightly, rigid defense with blistering counter attack. It took them only 8 minutes to open the scoring. Fernando Torres might not be working in the premier league but he continued brilliant form in Europe with a well taken goal from Schurrle’s cross.

Blues then focused on defense as Munich created more than a few decent chances, a lot of them fell to Ribery who could not convert one in the first half.

Coming into the second half, Ribery made amends as he found space early on and blasted a wonder striker past Cech. The European Champions had the upper hand afterwards but failed to capitalize. Chelsea were pushed in more trouble as Ramires got sent off before extra time.

With a man down, Chelsea came on firing, just like they did in the first half of normal time, they struck early in the first half of extra time as well. Hazard’s solo effort and power shot regained Chelsea’s lead.

Blues continued clearing the lines and defensive duties in the remaining time as Bayern were threatening. Petr Cech made few brilliant saves to deny Bayern but he was helpless in the final seconds as a looping ball somehow fell to Martinez who struck the ball home from 4 yards.

Onto penalties where Mourinho had a very bad record and that record continued as they lost out once again. Lukaku was the only one who missed the penalty and the European Champions won the Super Cup title.

  1. AndyYNWA says:

Lets have it right….Chelski were NOT unlucky!! They were totally out played, out scored, out sung and out flagged.
It doesn’t help the cause when the manager has to frantically windmill his arms to the fans in order to get them to wave their club issue plastic flags and support their team.
Also, Ramires should have received a straight red for going studs high.
Such a shame Terry couldn’t have lifted the trophy because he had his kit on and everything.

  2. The best thing to come out of this is the donkey Torres scoring,Mourinho has just about convinced Abramovich of the necessity to sell him but after that goal he will probably not be allowed to ,LOL !!
