Liverpool continued their perfect start to the season with third consecutive win last night but will they be able to continue that against the Champions on Sunday?
The merseysiders progressed in the Capital One Cup against league one side Notts County. Even after leading 2-0 at half time, the home side needed extra time to see off their opponents and in turn have exhausted their players.
Rodgers opted to keep majority of his top players in the starting lineup last night and tiredness took its toll. Veteran Kolo Toure has performed brilliantly in the opening two league and only the manager could explain the decision to start him again. He is now effectively ruled out for the weekend’s game because injury.
Another new signing, Cissokho was unlucky to get injured and then Allen provided another blow as well.
For worst, tiredness can influence Liverpool against Manchester United as well. Agger had to come on early to replace Cissokho, star striker Sturridge has played every minute for the Reds this season and the same goes for Glen Johnson.
On the other hand, Manchester United will visit their arch rivals relatively fresher having only played two games in two weeks. The question is, can worn out Liverpool side down Red Devils?
Skrtel, who was largely inconsistent last season will have to come in for Toure and step up big time if Liverpool are to diminish the quality attacking threat of United.
Understandable that Liverpool were used to such a scenario when they were playing in Europe but the combination of injuries and exhaustion never really helps. Can Sturridge maintain his brilliant goal scoring form against a solid United defense despite playing 300 minutes already.
The best news for Liverpool is that the tie is at Anfield where they always hold stronger cards against opposition. However, last time the Red Devils won 2-1 thanks to goals from Rafael and Robin van Persie. Reds can give out major warning to premier league teams if they can beat United and continue their perfect start. Can they? Only time will tell.

I hope we get twated by the Mancs,it’s the only reason other liverpool fans are going to wake the fuck up over Henry Ayre & this SHAMBOLIC Committee.Man city Chelsea Utd & SPURS will be in top 4 this season, and LFC WON’T EVEN BE IN TOP 8…
If u have nothing good to say about lfc better not say anything.
get ready for a big lost we will lose this match by 0-5
Dint believe that 8th is our destination, don’t believe we have. Improved our team this summer but think they if we can get s totally commited backer we could be top 4 or even better! But my gut feeling this year is that we will be pushing for 5th 🙁
“if Liverpool are to diminish the quality attacking threat of United” You must be a manc fan. Quality attack? They have RvP and nothing else. If Rooney goes, they will have no-one who can even get the ball to him, and if he has to come back to get it himself, he will be too knackered to score.
Danno, I understand your frustration but stop being paranoid mate, we got this, we winning dude. I am so dissapionted at BR for starting Toure instead of Skrtel. He didn’t get that right IMO.
