Former Liverpool manager Rafael Benitez recently joined Italian club Napoli after his successful managerial spell as Interim manager of Chelsea. The Spaiard led the blues to Europa League triumph last season and also ensured that they qualify for the Champions League automatically by finishing third.
Benitez managed Chelsea in the worst of circumstances where by majority of the fans were against him, booed him and Stamford Bridge was perhaps an away ground for him. Despite all the odds, Rafa did wonders and left at the end of the campaign to join Napoli.
The Italian side finished runners up in Serie A as Juventus were just too good and retained their crown.
Benitez loves Liverpool football club, that much we know and he is rated very highly by the Anfield faithful. The Spaniard led Liverpool to European Cup glory in 2005 after 20 years wait and perhaps has been their best manager since the inception of premier league.
One thing he absolutely loved at Liverpool was the support of the fans and the atmosphere created by the supporters at Anfield. Rafa claims that the fan support is one of the main reasons why he joined Napoli because they remind him of Liverpool.
“I accepted the Napoli job because of the enthusiasm and passion surrounding the club. I am keen to repay the club on the pitch.
“Napoli remind me a bit of Liverpool. We have a lof of quality players and an incredible hunger to win.”
Adding to that the Spaniard also stated about his desire to manage the La Roja one day. Del Bosque may leave his coaching position after the conclusion of Fifa World Cup 2014 and Rafa Benitez will be interested in managing the national team.
Nevertheless, for now he has to concentrate on his new role with Napoli. His last experience in Serie A with Inter was a torrid one and Rafa has to ensure that he makes amends this time around.
