Even before coming back to Chelsea, Jose Mourinho was reportedly interested in signing German star Khedira for the Blues. The former Real Madrid manager always desires a top quality defensive midfielder in his setup and Khedira is the ideal solution for that.
However, not so long ago, Khedira claimed that he wants to stay at the Bernabeu next season with Real Madrid. Now, reports suggest that Los Blancos want Sevilla’s center defensive midfielder Geoffrey Kondogbia and Khedira may have to depart to make way. Reports suggest that Chelsea are back again for German Star.
Previously, Khedira appreciated Jose but played down Chelsea interest and claimed that he is looking forward to play under new Real Madrid manager Carlo Ancelotti:
“I have enjoyed working with him (Jose) very much and rate him high,”
“Three years ago he handed me the chance to make the next step from Bundesliga to Real Madrid as young international. But I am contracted to Real and now I am first of all looking forward to working with Carlo Ancelotti.”
Although, one of Mourinho’s favorite CDM Michael Essien is already there at Chelsea but his ageing factor is a minus and the potential departure of John Obi Mikel is a major possibility this summer and Jose wants to add another top quality defensive midfield player to the lineup for next season.
The German star is reportedly available for a price of 18 million Euros. The blues are also after Manchester United’s star Wayne Rooney and are ready to battle Devils till the end of transfer window to somehow sign the England international.
The addition of Khedira will give much needed stability to Chelsea’s defense. Whether or not he will sign for the blues, only time will tell.
