Arsenal, Liverpool, City, Bolton, Chelsea and now AlbionFrench striker Nicolas Anelka has remarkably joined 11th club of his career by sealing one year deal with West Bromwich Albion. Adding to that, this is Anelka’s sixth premier league club having already played for Arsenal, Liverpool, City, Bolton and Chelsea.
The 34 year old forward has a decent scoring record across Europe and will rejoin Clarke who also managed him for a brief period at Chelsea. Anelka was a free agent as he left Chinese club Shanghai Shenhua after one year.
Anelka spent the second half of the season with Italian champions Juventus, however he could only feature in two league games and did absolutely nothing to contribute to their title winning campaign.
In any case, the signing may as well prove beneficial for West Brom as one-year contract for a proven goal scorer like Anelka is not a bad move. Steve Clarke stated:

“The sole focus at the club is trying to build on what we did last season. The more quality players you can bring to the club the better, and no one can question Nicolas’s quality.
“He’s a player I have worked with before as I was at Chelsea when they signed him. He’s got a great work ethic, looks after himself and is a consummate professional.
“If you add that to the obvious talent he’s got I think he can prove to be a really top signing for the club.”

Anelka has already won the league and FA Cup titles during his time with Arsenal and Chelsea in the premier league. He also has a Champions League medal won with Real Madrid.
His recent records have been mediocre. The Frenchman could only score 1 goal in 15 appearances in his last season with Chelsea and only netted 3 times in 24 appearances for the Chinese club. Whether or not he will be a hit with the Baggies, only time will tell.
