Arsenal Angle – Bernard was Never an Option

Arsenal Angle – Bernard was Never an OptionAnother day, another rumor, that is how it continues for Arsenal football club. The gunner supporters are still waiting for the first big name signing, when will that happen, only time will tell. For now, Arsene Wenger has ruined the excitement of fans who were thinking that Brazilian Bernard was close to signing for Arsenal.
Rumors suggested that the Londoners have agreed a fee for the talented Atletico Mineiro winger, however the Arsenal boss has come up to remove all the doubts by claiming that the club is not chasing Bernard.
Wenger told Mirror:

“That report (about Bernard) is not true”

Realistically, Bernard was never an option. Yes, he could have added more quality and depth to the lineup, still Arsenal already have quality midfield players at their disposal and they need reinforcements in other significant positions.
Bernard can play on both flanks and at Arsenal both are occupied by top class players who will be regular starters next season.
Lukas Podolski normally starts on the left flank and Theo Walcott on the right. They do shift positions but that will rarely be the case if Arsene signs a top quality striker, someone that Arsenal badly need. Liverpool’s Luis Suarez can surely do wonders but signing him is easier said than done.
On the other hand, gunners do have young Oxlade Chamberlain who has been one of the brightest talents in the premier league. Adding to that, at times, player of the year Cazorla shifts on the wings as well.
Goes without saying that Bernard is quality, but getting a player for a position where you already have adequate depth at the expense of a position where you don’t will not make any sense, may that be football or business. As already mentioned, the wait for Arsenal fans continue.

So what you are saying is that this rumour is like all the others, BS
This club is proving to be BS at the moment and us gullible fans will just lap it up and do or say nothing, nixies, not a bean, not an effing sausage

All they said was that they had cash and were willing to spend it. Which frankly is dumb, it’s like walking into a second hand car garage dressed in a mink coat and asking for a discount – same car, more moolah. We’ll end up overpaing for the same players. question is; would we value them more if they cost more? How much would Giroud have cost if we’d had gone for him this year?

So after spending years of everyone saying “never listen to Wenger” about transfers we’re all supposed to listen now ‘cos it’s bad news… You mention that two of the “midfield talents” that we have “do shift positions” or play more as an attacking forward (and want to play striker), so why not Bernard?
After all he’s able to play all across the midfield, is a playmaker to take the pressure off Santi AND generally plies his trade on the left, where our option is…Poldi, a striker who fills in there.
Maybe if we believe there were only 3 good strikers this summer, (1 is gone, 1 isn’t likely to be sold and the other is Suarez) this is the way to solve our problems without paying WAY (Higuain) over the odds and even if this doesn’t happen I for one am happier to see that we’re looking for more invention in the team, as at times last season we looked utterly bereft when Santi was neutralised.

      • Arsenal need an out and out striker more than anyone else.
Not someone who can shift, someone who can score 20+league goals. Someone like Rvp, not like Giroud, Walcot or Podolski.
I dont say Bernard is bad by any means or Wenger should not sign, but youd rather sign a (much needed)striker say Suarez first then move for others positions where you do have stars already

You appear to be very naive! Wenger was asked if he had signed him and was he coming for a medical Friday. Given Arsenal are in Japan until the weekend a FRiday medical was never true. Wenger’s answer is very ambiguous. We haven’t signed him, there is no medical Friday so the statement isn’t true – but it isn’t to say we won’t sign him Monday

You say flanks have depth, sorry to say i cant agree to that. What if poldi or walcott is missing, you’ll shift cazorla to a flank? And then who fills cazorla’s void outside the box ? Wilshere ? I dont think so. Yes he may but not yet.
And if our flanks were so reliable one wouldnt see ramsey play right many a time . ryo may be an option , but bernard seems better . just sayin 🙂

My trust in Wenger, to look after this team I have supported for 55 years, has completely gone. I truly thought ‘wow we are gonna sign this little genius Bernard’. Within minutes hopes dashed. After our undefeated run in against pretty low level premiership sides, we still looked uncertain and scared in those games. What is certain is that if we don’t buy some top notch players this team will be mediocre and win zilch. Wenger constantly pulls the rug from under our feet. He says he only signs the quality of player Arsenal need. Yeah…Squillaci, Chamakh, Denilsin, Santos. We just want a little joy. The same joy that tyhe Spuds have got with their two new quality signings. The joy the City supporters have got with Jovetic, Navas, Fernandinho, Negrado. Chelsea have signed three good players including Andre Schurrle. Wenger is playing a dangerous game and is the cause of so much dissatisfaction in Arsenal’s supporters. Arsene f*****g buy the little genius. Remember Wenger the fans pay your wages. Give us joy.
