Pellegrini: Right man to lead City to Champions League Glory?

Manchester City have finally announced their new manager and as expected Manuel Pellegrini will be the man in charge next season. The Chilean is delighted to sign for Citizens and will have a hard task at his hands in the toughest league in the world.
The competition in premier league is increasing every season and with return of Mourinho, one can say that the title race will not just be between the Manchester clubs only. City have a fantastic squad, capable of winning the league no doubt but it is the Champions League they really want to progress in and Pellegrini is perhaps the right man to lead them.
Too early to say that he can lead City to Champions League glory in his first season as manager but in the long run, he has all the traits to make City one of the main contenders and never know a winner as well.
Roberto Mancini led City to league title last year but despite having a host of top quality stars, he failed in Europe’s most elite competition. Citizens failed to qualify for the knockout round stages of the competition and finished bottom of the group last season without even winning a single game.
Mancini was never renowned for his management in CL. The Italian also had a strong squad at Inter Milan but failed to impress in the Champions League. Remember, it was Pellegrini’s Villareal to knock Mancini’s Inter out in 2006 to qualify for semis only to lose out against Arsenal.
Last season, against all odds, Pellegrini led Malaga to Champions league quarterfinals and perhaps won the tactical battle over two legs against Dortmund as well but the Germans shocked them to snatch victory by scoring 2 injury time goals.
One of the best tacticians in the game, Pellegrini will be expected to guide Manchester City in the same way. The sky blues have already signed the likes of Fernandinho and Jesus Navas. With such world class stars at his disposal, the 59 year old can do wonders but the pressure will be sky high as well.
