Blues are interested in numerous top quality players this summer. One major priority is to sign a world class striker and now it seems that Chelsea have set all their focus on signing star striker Edinson Cavani.
The Blues were heavily linked with Atletico and Porto striker Radamel Falcao but Monaco turned up and splashed the cash to steal the forward despite interest from major European clubs. Mirror reports that the London side are to hold talks with Napoli to discuss transfer of Cavani.
The Uruguayan international is currently on international duty in FIFA Confederations cup going on in Brazil. Cavani featured in the 2-1 defeat at the hands of World and European champions Spain a few days back.
Chelsea have badly missed a striker who could score 20+ league goals a season. Drogba did it in 2010 but since then the multimillions of Chelsea have not helped in signing one player who could do it again.
50 million spent on the Spaniard Fernando Torres but he has not been able to get into double figures as far as league goals are concerned. The inconsistency of forwards shows why Chelsea are so keen to sign a top quality scorer for next season.
As mentioned, Falcao was snapped up by Monaco and the latest reports suggest that Dortmund are not going to sell their top scorer Robert Lewandowski as well.
Having failed to lure any of the two mentioned, Chelsea have now set all their focus on signing Edinson Cavani and are looking to make sure that they do not lose out on him as well.
Jose Mourinho may as well have to break the bank and activiate Cavani’s release clause to sign him. Real Madrid are also reportedly interested in Cavani and his compatriot Luis Suarez from Liverpool.
Whatever the case, if they really want Serie A top scorer, the Blues must make sure that they seal the deal as soon as possible before other top clubs turn their attention towards the Uruguayan and show serious intent to sign him.
