The Blues are in the market for a top quality striker and it looks as if Chelsea are now favorites to land star forward who is arguably one of the best goal scorers in the world right now. The player in discussion is Napoli’s superstar and Seria A’s top scorer Edinson Cavani.
Chelsea are keen on signing the Uruguayan international but there are certain obstacles. One that Cavani is happy at the club, second even Napoli want to keep their hitman and only a mammoth offer equaling his buyout clause will help Blues in this case. Therefore, the asking price is a major problem.
Reportedly Cavani’s buyout clause is 51 million pounds and the question is, will Roman Abramovich be willing to spend another massive sum like he did on Fernando Torres.
According to Napoli’s chief, he will be talking to Chelsea in sometime to discuss the sale of Edinson Cavani, but the statements clearly indicate that he will not budge on the asking price for the prized asset. According to Mirror, Aurelio De Laurentiis claimed:
“If Cavani is sold then I’ll reinvest all of the €63m of his rescission clause”
“There is interest from Chelsea in Cavani, they’ll call me in the next few hour”
It is very significant that Chelsea do sign a world class goal scorer because both Manchester clubs have top quality strikers upfront, whereas the blues have had inconsistent strikers over the years. Mourinho will be desperate to win the premier league title again and may convince Roman to spend a hefty sum of the reported 100 million transfer kitty on Cavani.
Manager Rafael Benitez will want his star man to stay, but the departed Chelsea manager cannot do anything if Mourinho opts to activate Cavani’s asking price.
Nevertheless, if Cavani does leave, Rafa will have enough funds to play with and improve the overall quality of the squad who will feature in next year’s Champions League.
As far as Chelsea are concerned, they are currently favorites and must make sure that they seal the deal before Manchester City or any other suitor comes up to compete with them for star striker.
