No Point Paying Over the Odds Again

No Point Paying Over the Odds AgainLiverpool have their priorities set for the summer transfer market and as Jamie Carragher nears retirement, signing a defender tops the shopping list for the merseysiders. Numerous defenders are linked with a move to Liverpool but with a limited budget available, there is no point in paying over the odds again.
Rodgers is a big fan of Ashley Williams, well that is the case with every other Swansea player he has managed. He got his wish fulfilled by signing two ex-Swansea players for a combined sum of 26 million but both players have failed to make their mark yet at Anfield.
After a bright start to the season, Joe Allen turned into an average player for most part before getting injured for the rest of the season. On the other hand, Fabio Borini has only featured in 11 league games for Liverpool because of his injury hit campaign as well.
Fair to say, it is too early to rate them as flop but there is enough evidence for FSG to stop Rodgers from signing another Swansea player, especially in a situation where the Capital One Cup champions can exploit them again. Williams is rated 12 million and Liverpool are likely to have other cheaper alternatives available.
Arsenal have also been linked with the Swans captain but not sure even they will be interested in paying the mentioned amount for a player who will turn 29 in August.
Although, Martin Skrtel has had a bad season but still by all means the Slovakian is a good defender. Adding to that, Liverpool do have talented youngsters coming from the academy who can prove fruitful as well.
Nevertheless the fans will be expecting a quality signing that is significant if they are to fix the defensive concerns and move upwards next season.
Brendan Rodgers should be well aware of the fact that the transfer activity in the upcoming months may as well make or break his career with Liverpool Football Club. The pressure at Liverpool is immense and gambling on another player who has not played at that level may not make sense, that too if you have to pay over the odds to lure him.
Defenders such as the likes of Caulker, Douglas Franco Teixeira and Ajax’s versatile talent Toby Alderwiereld have been linked with Liverpool in recent times. Rodgers will have to weigh out his options carefully at the end of the season to decide on perhaps the most important signing of the summer.

The small club wonder that to replace CARRA is laughable

There are a number of reasons FSG will not buy Williams, for a start he’s too old and too expensive. 26 is the upper age limit John Henry has set as he wants to build on younger players we have in Kelly and and Wisdom two excellent defenders both of whom are naturally central defenders. we also have Wilson and Robinson out on loan, although I expect Wilson to be sold, and let’s not right off Skrtel just yet.
