Liverpool, Arsenal and the Worst Rumor of the Year

Lately, Liverpool and Arsenal have been linked with none other than Real Madrid and Spain’s legend Iker Casillas. This has got to be the worst rumor of the year but well, all you need these days is a slight hint or not even that to come up with a story like this.
It is no mystery that Casillas and manager Jose Mourinho are not on good terms and that is all it takes these days to link a legendary figure elsewhere. According to Marca, the goalie claims that he will leave the club if Mourinho stays as Real Madrid’s manager next season and the reported destination is England.
So which of the two top English clubs have goalkeeping problems these days? De Gea has hit form in his second season with Manchester United. Chelsea have all reliable Petr Cech.
Joe Hart is by far England’s best goalkeeper and one of the main reasons why Manchester City have kept more clean sheets than any other team in the English league for the last three years. Tottenham paid 15 odd million to sign French international Lloris who has impressed in his debut season. Who’s left? Oh yes, Arsenal and Liverpool, who are linked with every other player these days.
The gunners have faced this dilemma for the past few years. Since Lehmann departed, Arsenal have not been able to replace him with a top quality goal keeper. No matter how talented the current number one Szczęsny is, he has not been reliable and hence the North Londoners are linked with goalies almost every season.
However, Arsenal don’t have that reputation of spending a lot $$$ and they have normally invested after selling stars. Will that change in the next window is another matter but for Casillas to leave a club that seemingly guarantees trophies to join one who has not won one in a long time makes no sense.
On the other hand, Liverpool’s Pepe Reina once used to be the king of premier league but since Benitez departed, the Spaniard has never been consistent. Although Liverpool have reiterated that the goalie is going nowhere still he needs to improve big time to meet the high standards expected of him.
When it comes to history and prestige, Liverpool is one of the most famous clubs in the world. However, over the past few years the reds have been miles apart from the best in the world. They are likely to fail in qualifying for Champions league for the 4th consecutive season and surely Casillas will not be interested in Europa League.
Nevertheless, it goes without saying that Casillas loves Real Madrid. No matter how good Diego Lopez or any goalie performs, the captain is worshipped by the fans and will return because of his legendary status and well he is still one of the best goal keepers in the world.
