Reports suggest that Gunners are seriously interested in signing young Fiorentina striker Stevan Jovetic in the summer transfer market. However, Arsenal must move swiftly in pursuit of Montenegro star before other suitors opt to chase the Viola forward.
Over the past few weeks, the Gunners were linked with German starlet Mario Goetze. Although the move was always highly unlikely but still they never showed real intent to sign Dortmund playmaker. Now that Bayern have signed him so early, Arsenal must focus on not losing other targets.
Arsene Wenger’s side is without doubt lacking a prolific finisher up front. Olivier Giroud, Lucas Podolski and Theo Walcott may have been productive in many ways but Gunners have badly missed someone like their ex-captain Robin van Persie. Someone who could finish the chances they often miss these days.
While another player left Arsenal and is celebrating premier league title, Gunners have not progressed as they still fight for the Champions League places and have failed to win a single title in eight long years, a fact that hurts every Arsenal supporter.
The North London side are profitable, have funds at their disposal but rarely do they spend big. Instead, they are renowned for making stars and then selling them. Arsenal just have to spend big this summer if they are to compete for top prizes next season as other top clubs are looking to reinforce their squads.
Chelsea and both Manchester clubs are chasing top strikers such as the likes of Radamel Falcao, Edinson Cavani and Robert Lewandowski etc. Arsene Wenger is well aware of the fact that if he does not keep pace with their rivals in the transfer market then the gap at the top may as well increase.
Jovetic has had a decent season in the Serie A as the Montenegro international has scored 12 league goals in 26 outings for Fiorentina.
Settling early in the premier league is not that easy as Giroud was top scorer last season in Ligue 1 but has struggled to find the net this season for Arsenal. Whether or not Jovetic can settle early in the premier league is another matter but the quality is inevitable.
20 odd million should be enough to lure the talented forward and Arsenal must splash that amount which they normally hesitate in paying. For now Gunners face a tough three way battle to qualify for CL and Jovteic signing may heavily depend on Arsenal’s Champions League qualification as well.
