Why United Fans Must Also Blame Nani and Ferguson

Why United Fans Must Also Blame Nani and FergusonHaving covered the match report of United’s exit from champions league, my main focus was on the controversial decision that Red Devils suffered. However, I feel the story does not end there, fans are blaming the referee but not all the fingers should be pointed at him, they must also blame Nani and Ferguson.
Fans may argue all they like, but without a shadow of a doubt Nani’s flying challenge was a dangerous one, may it be completely unintentional but still worthy of at least a booking if not sending off. The referee obviously thought it was dangerous enough for a Red card. Here is why Nani and Ferguson should also share the blame for exit.

Firstly, why is no one furious with Nani? This was by no means a Sunday league or a friendly match, even though his actions will be highly unacceptable in those games. Still, it is baffling that in the biggest game of the season, at such stage of the competition and at such intensity level, Nani went for a challenge in the middle of the park expecting no one around.
For him to think that no one would run for the ball makes things all but unbelievable. Then again, in the final moment, or say at the point of contact, he noticed Arbeloa but did not try to lessen the impact of collision by pulling away. Instead, he left his foot there and in the end faked injury perhaps knowing what he has done.
I would again say that his actions may not be intentional at all but the point is that in any footballing rulebook, that was a dangerous bookable offense, we all agree there and Nani knew he was guilty. Inevitably, his decision to go for a challenge like that was not justifiable by any means.

Ferguson Panicked

Alex Ferguson exploded in anger and frustration when Nani was sent off. Having gone a man down the manager could not keep himself calm when he really should have. That eventually helped Real Madrid.
Ferguson may have had perfect tactics but after going down to 10 men, he panicked and did not come up with necessary tactics to somehow hold the game. Last year in the champions league semifinals, Chelsea fought back and scored twice against Barcelona at Camp Nou after John Terry was sent off and did not concede as well.
United perhaps did the same but only when they were 2-1 behind on the night. Even that might have proved fruitful if only Diego Lopez was not in brilliant form. The question is, why did they not make that effort earlier? Yes it was 10 vs 11 and against one of the best teams in the world but they were still in the lead and playing with home support. Why did they completely switch off and made it look as if they have mentally lost the tie after the red card.
Contrary to that, Mourinho made the necessary changes immediately to control the game. He brought Luka Modric for Arbeloa, piled pressure on United’s trembling defense and was eventually rewarded. With all the experience, Ferguson could have, should have handled the situation better to make amends, instead disaster struck and Madrid turned the tie around in no time.
The Champions League is done and dusted for United and now the focus should be on the league. Surely Red Devils are favorites in sports.bwin.com/premier-league to win 20th crown as they are 12 points ahead of rivals City. Ferguson must not let champions league panic influence the domestic competition else City may as well take advantage like last year.
