Arsenal have to overcome a towering task in Germany tonight if they are to qualify for the last eight of the champions league. Manager Arsene Wenger is adamant that his side does not face an impossible task and can win big at the Allianz Arena. The question remains, can Arsenal turn the tie around against Bayern Munich?
Not many teams can visit the Emirates Stadium and humiliate the home side but Bayern Munich did exactly that as they dominated the Gunners in every department to beat them 3-1 in the first leg.
Arsenal have no option but to score at least 3 goals if they are to qualify for the next round but that is easier said than done against one of the best clubs in the world Bayern.
Not to forget, no team has ever overcome a two-goal deficit away from home in the Champions League. Hence, Arsenal have a near impossible task against Bayern who are one of the favorites to win the title this year, which will be their 5th European cup. The Germans are flying high in domestic competitions and are on the road to complete treble.
The odds are against the North Londonders, Bayern are in brilliant form, Arsenal are not. At home, Bayern are ruthless and have lost only one game in the Bundesliga this season against Bayer Leverkusen who defeated them 2-1 at the Allianz Arena.
Arsenal will be playing without their first team goalie Wojciech Szczesny. This means, Fabianski will step in and he has to play way above his usual standards to save Arsenal from exit. In any case, even he will not be able to help Arsenal if their defense is as woeful as it was in the first leg.
For worst, Gunners are without the man or I must say the boy who has been the main driving force recently, Jack Wilshere. His injury is another major blow for the English side
With such important absentees, Wenger is still upbeat that Arsenal can win and win big against all odds. Whether or not Arsenal can turn the tie around against Bayern at the Allianz Arena, only time will tell but from the circumstances, it seems highly unlikely that they can.
