Michael Laudrup won his first trophy in England last night as his side Swansea dismantled Bradford to lift the Capital One Cup. The Danish manager has been impressive since he joined the club in summer and has only taken half a season to win a title with Swans.
Bradford City had no answers to the flowing football of Swansea as the premier league side ripped them apart to win with the biggest margin ever in the league cup final history. Dyer and DeGuzman scored respective doubles and prolific Michu was on the score sheet as well to complete a 5-0 thrashing.
Laudrup’s decision to rest seven first team players last week against Liverpool may have backfired on that day as they were annihilated by Reds 5-0 at Anfield. However, that decision eventually paid off, as a fresh Swansea side never gave Bradford a chance to take control of the game last night.
Bradford perhaps got their first genuine shot on target very late in the 85th minute of the game, till then the game was all but beyond them. Swansea will celebrate the victory in front of their home fans on Tuesday.
The win not only gave Swansea their first major trophy ever, but above all, they have qualified for Europe as well. Regardless of their league position, Swansea will feature in the Europa League next season, which is quite an astonishing achievement as Swans just got promoted to the top tier of English football in 2011 under manager Brendan Rodgers.
Even though their leader left to join Liverpool in summer, Michael Laudrup has successfully amplified all the good work done by the previous managers and has taken Swansea to next level. Martinez and Rodgers laid the foundation and Laudrup has perhaps perfected it with his team.
Laudrup’s brilliant transfer dealings helped him enhance the quality of the squad; especially the signing of Michu has proved to be majestic for the Swans. The Spaniard has been one of the best players in the league and surely the signing of the season by far. With such a talented manager in charge, the Swansea fans, already in dreamland, can look forward to a brilliant future.
