Bayern Favorites Against Unpredictable Arsenal

Bayern Favorites Against Unpredictable ArsenalArsenal will host Bayern in the 1st leg of the Champions League R16 next week and the German giants are clear favorites to win against the Gunners even at the Emirates stadium.
Bayern are in fantastic form, they are virtually out of sight in the German Bundesliga having lost only once in the league. Last year’s champions Dortmund are 18 points behind in second place as Bayern are in a class of their own and surely fearsome for Gunners.
The head to head stats are in favor of Munich as well. The last meeting between the sides was way back in year 2005 at the same stage of the competition where Bayern edged the tie with 3-2 aggregate win over Arsenal.
The Germans lost last year’s final on penalties against English side Chelsea and will be looking to go one better this season to lift the trophy. The addition of Croatian forward Mario Mandzukic has given them more firepower and also the signing of versatile Javi Martinez has given them more balance. Surely they are one of the hot favorites to win this year’s champions league.
On the other hand Arsenal have been unpredictable. On their day, gunners rip teams apart but mostly this season they have been quite average especially against good opposition and Bayern will be their toughest test. The Germans are favorites at (2.00) with Bwin to win the first leg whereas Gunners are outsiders at (3.50) to beat Bayern. The Gunners are 5th in the premier league and currently chasing qualification for next year’s champions league as they are 4 points behind arch rivals Tottenham who occupy 4th spot. Arsenal star Lukas Podolski knows all about Bayern and will be looking to impress against his former team.
The main concern for Arsenal is the injury of Jack Wilshere. The England international got injured against Sunderland and still there is no confirmation whether he will be fit to start or not, although the reports do suggest that he may feature. Wilshere has recently been the key for gunners to unlock defenses and controlling the midfield battle and the fans will be hoping their star is fit in time for the tie.
Gunners will be looking to somehow shock the visitors like BATE Borisov did in the group stages by beating Munich 3-1 but the chances of that happening are not very likely. Whether or not Arsenal can prove the doubters wrong and win against all odds, only time will tell.
