Liverpool annihilated Norwich City 5-0 to go level with Arsenal, however the Londoners have two games in hand. The Reds were rampant against the Canaries as the visitors had no answer whatsoever to Liverpool’s brilliant passing. Adding to that their defending was woeful that helped the home side completely demolish the opposition.
The Reds are still chasing a top four spot while Norwich City are finding it hard to even gain a single point. Canaries had only won 1 point in the last five premier league games much to despair of their supporters. Things were only to get worse at Anfield.
Liverpool found it a little hard to break down Norwich’s defense in the first 20 odd minutes, but after the first goal, the flood gates opened. 25 minutes in, ball broke to Jordan Henderson who buried it from just outside the box, his first premier league goal of the season from a player who is still battling to win over majority of Liverpool fans following that big money move from Sunderland last season. Nevertheless, a fantastic volley from the England U21 international that left Bunn with no chance to save.
The reds doubled the lead 10 minutes before break. Lovely dummy by Daniel Sturridge from Lucas Leiva’s pass and the prolific Luis Suarez did the rest, his 7th goal against Noriwch in the last 3 games and 20th strike of the season for the club. Only one outcome these days when Suarez is one on one with the goalie, cool left foot finish in the bottom corner by the Uruguayan.
Into the second half and Liverpool did not take long to make it 3-0. Superb cross from Downing was turned in easily from close range by the new boy Sturridge and he became the first Liverpool player to score in each of his first three games for the reds, since Ray Kennedy did it in the 1970s. The goal ended any chance of Norwich revival but Liverpool were not finished yet.
There was still plenty of time for more goals and in the 66th minute, it was 4-0. Skipper Steven Gerrard never wanted to be left out during Liverpool goal rout, smacked one in from 25 odd yards out to score his 6th goal of the season. 15 minutes from the end, Liverpool completed Norwich’s misery as substitute Raheem Sterling weak cross shot was turned into the net by the luckless Ryan Bennett.
Liverpool have scored 10 times against Norwich this season as they also dismantled them 5-2 at Carrow Road earlier this season. The win takes the merseysiders up to 7th place in the table and level on points with Arsenal who are also their next opponents in the premier league.
